Duties:
|
Palliative volunteers will provide non-medical support to clients diagnosed with a life limiting illness in their home,long-term care home,hospital,or residential hospice. Duties include visiting,recreational activities (games, cards,walks,outings,etc.), snack preparation,comfort care, and occasional education for client and/or family.

Skills Expected:

Palliative volunteers must be excellent listeners, trustworthy,dependable,respectful,compassionate,empathetic,non-judgmental,patient,and good communicators.
|

Orientation:
|
Following the completion of The Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care and receipt of certificate, there will be a formal Victorian Order of Nurses(VON) Orientation to help you understand more about the VON and our role in the community. We will then have an orientation specific for Volunteer Visiting. This orientation can be done in one day or 2 half days.

Training:

The Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care is a 10 week (30 hour) course provided to prepare you to volunteer with clients and their families in any type of setting.
